I cucumber, 3 stalks of celery, 1 apple, 3 small oranges, it takes all of that to turn into this one big yummy glass of goodness! I am in love with my juicer! I got a Jack La Lanne one at Costco…a great deal at under $100. I had NO idea that juicers took so much fruit or greens. Look at the amount that’s on the plate to make that one big glass, it is amazing how much you have to put into that machine….wow it is pretty expensive, so I have to go for the week to the farmers markets where you can get some deals. I absolutely depend on my garden also, am waiting for the celery now any day I will be able to harvest that.

Zola…the fortune teller!

So this is the Santa Monica Pier. Zola, my husbands grandmother was the Fortune Teller (gypsy) here for many years. Too bad she couldn’t tell us to hold onto that piece of property, woops city block she owned right across from the pier. It must be somewheres in the region of hmmmmm 500 million right about now. Oh well…..

The Santa Monica Pier is one of the last remaining wood piers on the Calif. coast. I remember going there as a kid, playing carnival games, hot dog in hand watching the people fish off of the pier, when I was very little. Then, one summer I took junior lifeguards. I will never forget that for our final test we had to jump off the end of the pier with a life saver floating device and pretend to save someone. I was only like 12 yrs. old and shaking in my boots! We get down to the end of the pier where the water is at it’s deepest and I’m watching very carefully, not saying a word, as all of the kids go before me diving and saving people. I’m gaining strength from each of their success, I think I just might just be able to do this…..THEN, I’m in line, next girl up…… The tension is palpable…… I watch intently as the chubby girl in front of my jumps off AND SUDDENLY her rope line gets snagged on a pier piling….SHE IS SCREAMING! YIKES OH MY GOD! THIS is HORRENDOUS! Her shrieks of absolute terror fill the air!

Everyone dashes over, leaning over the wood railing, to see her swinging back and forth, under the pier, about 10 feet above the ocean water dangling from the end of the rope. The rope is now cutting into her skin, she’s bleeding as she dangles and moves she also screams….Oh My Gosh! This is terrible stuff happening right before my eyes. This is happening, my fears coming true.

She is finally pulled up and bloody and crying, this is not a great Saturday for me or her. BUT mind you we had to do this and accomplish this task to get our final Junior Life Guard badges, certificates and become REAL LifeGuards! The teacher turns to me…..”OK Deb you’re up” Do I throw up, poop myself, cry and run screaming down the pier to safety….or what….

My mouse path..wow

This is my mouse path for about 2 hours. The lines are made from when I move my mouse. The circles are hesitations. The larger the circle I probably got up to go to the fridge, walk the dog, etc. It’s really amazing isn’t it. It was plain black and white and then I attacked it with photoshop and some color! It reminds me of a print from the 60′s.

Expect to turn a lot of heads toting a JumpFromPaper bag down Madison Avenue. The brainchild of Taipei-based design duo, Chay Su and Rika Lin, this new accessories line fools the eye with a reverse spin on trompe-l’oeil: 3-D objects parading as a two-dimensional drawings.

With exaggerated outlines and bright blocks of color, they look they’ve been pulled straight from the comic pages — like something Little Orphan Annie would oogle in a store window. Despite their flattened appearance, they’re deceptively spacious, with enough room to hold all your accessories, even your laptop. Current styles mimic the basic bowling bag, satchel, hobo, and briefcase, but we’d like to see the designers tackle some more iconic models — maybe an Hermès Birkin, a Chanel 2.55, or even a Fendi Baguette.

Here’s my winter garden. Yep, in California we’re lucky when we live near the ocean there is no frost. Well, now and again we do have a bit of frost on the grass in the morning, but generally you can garden year round. I’ve got Broccoli, Cauliflower, onions, celery, and string beans. The beans aren’t doing to well.

My garden is all organic. The only problem I have is ground squirrels. Today I went out to find the roots of one plant just all nibbled off ( last photo) so my friend who is a fireman that lives across the way lit a few 15 min. flares ….we lit them and popped them down their holes, to try and drive them out of the field. It’s suppose to make them leave their underground tunnels. I don’t want to use any traps or poisons as the garden is organic….I figure a little smoke underground won’t do that much damage. If anyone has any brilliant ideas for gophers or ground squirrels please let me know. No, I cannot put chicken wire under boxes to keep them out….The side field that my garden is in is really big, I’d say a quarter acre. My garden is only 25 x 35, but impossible to put wire around and under all of it.

Someone told me I could buy deer blood to sprinkle around the parameters of the garden…..making the critters think there is death nearby and dangerous here.

THAT is just gross to me. UGH! So I am open to suggestions of all kinds, just don’t tell me to buy deer blood or urine. arrgghhhhhhh

So heeelllllppppp! all Y’all gardeners, WHAT do I do????
