My Malibu….It’s always nice to go on an adventure, BUT it’s soooo nice to come home. My Malibu is what I love. I love the fall here, I love when you can just start to feel a “crisp” in the air. I love when the beaches empty out, when driftwood comes in from storms, and when sea glass is rampant. I love the silence and aloneness you feel on a beach in the winter…….oh I cannot wait!

I really love palm trees, they are so adaptable. I’ve seen them in 50 mph winds bending almost in half and the next day be up-right swaying in a warm breeze. They really are amazing. There are so many of them in Hawaii, I just adore them…..nothing says the tropics like a palm tree. Did you know there were 2600 species of palm trees today? Palms mostly grow in the tropics, but there are 130 types that will grow elsewhere.
The palm tree is used as a symbol of tropical vacations, but in past cutures it was used as a symbol of peace, fertility, and even victory!
Palm sap is sometimes fermented to produce palm wine or toddy, an alcoholic beverage common in parts of Africa, India, and the Philippines.
This photo is one of my all time favorites of my son and my husband…..It’s not the best quality but oh so special in it’s own way.
There is really a magical quality about it…a Dad fishing with his son.
My son the dreamer, dirty, staring off into his world, and his Dad totally engulfed by this magical moment.
It is moments like this that make being a parent so worthwhile.

We’ve just learned that Dhondup Wangchen, the Tibetan filmmaker
who made the remarkable documentary “Leaving Fear Behind,” has
been sentenced to a six-year prison term. According to Radio
Free Asia and the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, he was sentenced
on December 28, 2009. The Chinese government has yet to confirm
the sentencing but Dhondup Wangchen’s family has released a
statement based on information they received from Tibet. Read
the statement here:

While we are saddened by this news, we believe that
international pressure is making a difference in his case. It
appears that Dhondup Wangchen is trying to appeal his sentence,
so it is critical that we keep the pressure on.
PLEASE TAKE ACTION: Send the letter below to Chinese President
Hu Jintao. Your letter will also be sent to China’s Ambassador
