The rainbow of truth…..

O.K. …  It’s the ol’ Christian/Muslim fundamentalist vs. EVERTHING else.

I just can’t imagine how someone in our modern day society, with all our information and technology, can be so swept away, so rigid, so unyielding, so unable to entertain there are other opinions and beliefs in the world??? This is the cause of wars, religion causes most of the problems, and fighting around the globe. One person saying theirs in “the only way”. Christian fundamentalists say this all the time. If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your savior and asked for salvation, you are doomed to live in Hell the rest of your days.

Bullshit.

Now, I don’t know about you, but this is just absolutely crazy, brain washed, Jim Jones kool aid drinking, thinking to me. What about that little Chinese lady squatting in the garden. She loves her family, works hard, is a friend to everyone. She is kind and sweet to neighbors and compassionate to all. She doesn’t curse, is extremely happy, polite and conscientious, and always laughs her troubles away. All she has ever done is GOOD. She is a Buddhist, not a Christian or Catholic.

But…..she is going to HELL??????

Oh I guess, she’ll find herself  in hell then with The Dalai Lama, The Maharishi, Thich Nhat Hahn, Krishna, and Mahavira just to name a few. I’d say pretty interesting company.

How can someone believe this is true? It seems unfathomable to me. But, I guess they do. What really bothers me is that they think theirs is the ONLY religion, and wouldn’t even entertain listening or reading anything else. Isn’t this what we call brain washing? When the doctrine is so regimented that nothing else is even respected…..on the contrary it is belittled, and scoffed at.

I try to have respect for everyone’s belief, it is such a personal issue….But I’ll admit it……

I do have a problem with these kind of self serving Christians who are cloaked in the “right religion”, they thoughtlessly throw a bible verse, dismissing the offending person as the devil, bigoted, close minded, or even calling you the aniti-christ, is their usual response.

This fundamentalists mind set, whether Muslim or Christian is an accepted response to God’s powers and is actually an intimidation to thinking clearly. They are swept away in terror and the horror of burning alive, etc.

My understanding is that Jesus Christ was an enlightened being like many others before him, and many to come after. He was a loving, compassionate teacher, who befriended even the worst of the worst. Do you think that the loving Jesus would say some of the things that come out of the mouths of these fanatics…..I think not.

My take……I get something out of every religious book or quote I happen to read. The kindness and compassion of the Dalai Lama IS as real as Jesus Christ’s. The understanding and guidance of  Thich Nhat Hahn is equal to Lao Tsu. If people want goodness and kindness they have to be willing to accept it, opening their minds and hearts to the world we live in.

There is NOT JUST ONE WAY!

The world comes in many colors, many beliefs, and many faces.

I’m an old hippy who happens to believe the rainbow has more than one color in it. I must have patience and compassion for those with a closed door of a mind.

A couple of quotes from The Dalai Lama…..

“The practice of patience guards us against losing our presence of mind. It enables us to remain undisturbed, even when the situation is really difficult. It gives us a certain amount of inner peace, which allows us some self-control, so that we can choose to respond to situations in an appropriate and compassionate manner, rather than being driven by our disturbing emotions.”

“The quality of everything we do: our physical actions, our verbal actions, and even our mental actions, depends on our motivation. That’s why it’s important for us to examine our motivation in our day to day life. If we cultivate respect for others and our motivation is sincere, if we develop a genuine concern for others’ well-being, then all our actions will be positive.”

Desiderata…

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Osho…my sannyas,

I first heard about Osho from my son. He was in India touring around the country and ended up at the ashram in Pune. At first I had terrible visions of my son shaving his head, wearing red robes and giving up his freedom to join some wierd ass cult.I was all the way on the other side of the world, how would I protect him….my “Mom”  mind started spinning.  I freaked out. Why? I am an open minded hippy from the 60′s, why would I have such a reaction? He happened to call home for a birthday or Mothers Day or something, and I’ll never forget it he said…”Mom, just go buy a book of his and read it, and then we’ll talk”

I immediately went to The Bodi Tree in L.A. and found about 40 books by this Osho fellow. I read and fell instantly in love, this man was saying everything I had felt, and opened my mind to open thinking, and more importantly NO thinking, just meditation.

Well that was the beginning of my life long love affair, and why I became a sannyasin.

Thanx T I am eternally grateful,

love, Mom

Osho….NO thought for the day

No-Thought for the Day : Don’t be bothered by perfection. Replace the word ‘perfection’ by ‘totality.’ Don’t think in terms that you have to be perfect, think in terms that you have to be total. Totality will give you a different dimension.

OSHO

I touch the feet of Osho today in honor of Guru Poornima day.

The old religions were very much against beauty because they were against life itself, because they were against love. Beauty provokes love. They were against the world, and the world is utterly beautiful. And because they were against the world, against life, against love, against beauty, they created very insensitive people. Obviously, there is no possibility to grow in sensitivity if beauty is not respected, appreciated, enjoyed. All your sensitivity will die. The old religions were not sensuous, and whenever a man is not sensuous he starts dying, he loses contact with the living forces of Existence.

I teach a sensuous religion. I teach a sensitive religion. To me, beauty is far more valuable than truth. Truth is only an aspect of beauty, a face of beauty. Beauty us God himself. I teach a very artistic religion. And aesthetics to me is like ethics was to the old religions: aesthetics is my ethics.

If you are in love with beauty you will not do anything wrong – that is enough safeguard – because to do anything wrong you will have to do something ugly. The man who loves beauty will not be able to assert a lie, because a lie is ugly. His sensitivity towards beauty will certainly prevent him from doing many things that he could have done if he were not sensitive enough.

Flowchart to lifelong happiness…Carrots over Cupcakes!

Flowchart to lifelong happiness

By Nathan Yau – Jul 9, 2010 – Infographics

Here’s my take on this……..

I just found this, and it makes simple  sense. Then I started thinking about what makes me happy.

Basically I am a really happy person to begin with. What makes me this way? Is it all the money I have?  Heck No, I’m broke!

I really see the world thru rose colored glasses, I do… I know I do. This bugs my husband when he’s in a bad mood. It grates on him….”How can she be so damn happy”??? I know that’s what he’s thinking half the time.

I suddenly  realized  it is HOW I CHOOSE  to look at the world.  Simple. I believe people are basically good, and want to do good. The idiot that just cut in front of you making you slam on your brakes, and your turkey sandwich go flying, is not really a “mean” person, he’s just un-conscious. He probably had a fight with his wife this morning, or is constipated….who knows, could be a million and one reasons. The main reason is what’s important here, he is just un-conscious!

 Sooooo, I want to be more conscious.

I want to believe the world is a wonderful place and I do. When I watch TV I usually watch alternative things that educate me. That’s what I choose.

Choices are very important…..THEY shape your life!

I’m going to pay more attention to the choices I make in life.

Carrots over cupcakes folks!

To Protest Craigslist at their San Francisco Headquarters

The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW) in partnership with Prostitution Research and Education (PRE) and other co-sponsors will be holding a protest in front of Craigslist Headquarters in San Francisco on July 8th to bring attention to Craigslist’s facilitation of and profiting from sex trafficking. “Craigslist continues to cynically profit by functioning as an online pimp,” says Norma Ramos, Executive Director of CATW. “Craigslist is the new stroll where pimps traffic, johns buy and Craigslist profits,” says Melissa Farley, Executive Director, PRE.

Craigslist is projected to realize a 22% increase in revenue – an estimated $36 million in 2010 – largely attributable to its functioning as a virtual red light district for pimps/traffickers and johns. Craigslist displays a reckless disregard for human rights by increasingly becoming a part of the sex industry. Craigslist could act to create a sex trafficking free internet by no longer hosting prostitution ads and thereby setting an industry standard.

We invite you to join CATW, PRE and our co-sponsors who include: Gloria Steinem, Breaking Free, A Call to Men, Equality Now, End Child Prostitution and Trafficking (ECPAT-USA), and many others at our protest to hold Craigslist accountable for facilitating and profiting from the rank exploitation of others.

Speakers Include:

* Joy Friedman, Women’s Program Manager, Breaking Free
* Victor Malarek, Author/Activist, The Natashas and The Johns
* Aaron Cohen, Author/Activist, Slave Hunter
* Terria Joseph, Actor

When: Thursday, July 8, 2010, 12:00 – 2:00 PM

Where: Craigslist Headquarters

1381 9th Avenue (Between Judah and Irving Streets)

San Francisco, CA 94122

My friend Charlie had a heart attack…..

So I was talking to Charlie and we both agree, having both of us just recently gone thru a near death experience ….a few things we noticed.

One there are definetly 2 sides to each of us while we are embroiled in a horrific moment. There is side one….that’s the side that is firing constantly, instinctually reactive, and electrically charged. The side that if A equals B then this must be C side. The side that spontaneously triggers, and keeps the Timex ticking. It’s the side tha tsets up natural mechanisms to protect us. That side just goes about it’s business in times of panic and checks off the check list one by one very methodically.

Then there is side 2, I feel the more personality side, maybe called the soul side?? Maybe it is the side that makes us…..US.  Anyway, that side says …Holy Shit, I’m in a mess right now….WHAT is going on? I’m scared, I’m nervous…..I’m going to die..etc, etc. No everything is cool, I’m o.k. No problem! Settle down idiot you will be fine.

Well, here’s a thought….my side 2 was unconscious when I was put in the ambulance and rushed to UCLA…soooooooo I did NOT fear death. I didn’t know it was knocking at my door. I had no idea, so I was not afraid. I could have died right then and would not have even known because I was unconscious.Now my point is…. was my being unconscious protecting me from knowing how near to death I was? Hmmmm interesting…. could be.

Charlie was awake while the doctors worked on him, and felt the heart attack. BUT he also said he felt like everthing was o.k. also.

So this makes me think maybe we have a built in mechanism that protects us from impendinding doom.Something that knocks us out, something that protects us…. Maybe we only fear death while we are here, alive on earth, alert to the disaster….

Well it’s pretty interesting to think about how the human body is pre- programmed with all of these amazing reactions, why not that protective one?

Think about it……

So Elton John thinks Jesus was a gay man!

http://www.popeater.com/2010/02/18/elton-john-jesus-gay/?icid=main|htmlws-main-n|dl2|link4|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.popeater.com%2F2010%2F02%2F18%2Felton-john-jesus-gay%2F

So, Elton John says Jesus was a gay man…..whad-dah-ya-think about that?

I bet for the purests out there that’s really a shocking thing to say. Good for him, that’s what I think.

So Elton happens to believe that Jesus was gay…so what! Big deal.

I’m actually glad that I live in a world that individuals can voice their own opinions.

I’m sure Pat Robertson, amongst others, thinks that Mr. Elton John is just a sick person brain damaged from his being gay. So there aren’t any gay Christians? Come on now….I happen to know a few. If they want their Jesus to prefer men what’s it to anyone else? I think your religion is your own personal interpretation…..or should be anyway. I think the whole idea of Jesus being a “sexual” person is just way too much for people to accept. Why is that? Because we have been fed a doctorine, we do not mess with.

What I can’t take is people who don’t have the nerve to express their opinions, they bow to the masses, or don’t even contemplate enough to develope their own personal views. Those who are mind washed into thinking like the masses cannot fathom how someone could step out of the box, and then have the audacity to vocalize it publically.

I say…..Here’s to you Elton for having the guts to say what you feel, no matter how controversial! Bravo!
