My heart….

our kids

I cannot even begin to tell you how I feel about these two people, my kids. But i will attempt it….First they are my heart and soul. If you are a Mother, or a parent you will know what I mean, when I say they are my entire life, all rolled into two bodies!.

I can’t tell you how proud I am of the people they have become. My daughter, we call her the “commandhant”, is an amazing “slamma” of an example. That means usually whatever she takes on, she slams….that’s my nickname and she has backed me up on that attribute. I know there will be a “slamma” around after I am gone. She tackles things with kindness, a rarity these days, and is a huge bundle of do it now in action. If you are a friend of B’s she will do ANYTHING for you. She is the true picture of what a friend should be. She will go out of her way to do ANYTHING for a friend. You are a lucky person to be friends with her.

Do you need 48 cupcakes right now? B will be there. How about painting your bathroom an amazing shade of turquoise before dinner, again she has a brush in her hand. I really don’t think any task is too big for B. She is stupid silly at times, fun-loving in every way, and always can be counted on to do something so goofy, not caring what others say….I love that about her, she doesn’t give a shit what people say about her goofiness, she is truly a free spirit in that way. She is kind and giving, warm and caring. She is a perfect example of a great Mom. Her 2 girls are so fortunate to have a Mom that cares so deeply about their happiness, and growth. I raised her with an independent “I can do it nature”, and I don’t think B would hesitate to paint a four story building pink if need be. I truly think B could do anything she puts her mind to. If tomorrow she decided to become a realtor, she would excel, a chef, kill it, a teacher, of course…..she just has that undeniable attitude of success with whatever she tackles. But it is done with kindness, and complete control, not as a competition with others. She does things, tackles them to prove her slamma-ness I presume it is something, must be in her DNA. She is my best friend.

B can make things fun, B can do anything she wants to. Everyone loves her, she is happy and kind, and caring.

Then there is the other, little brother..T

What to say. He holds the mysteries of the Universe for me. He is that world traveler I use to be. His young eyes have seen some of the worlds mysteries, he has soared with eagles in Egypt, and come home with lice from the northern jungles of Thailand. Danced until dawn on many continents, studied the exotic secrets of India, and practiced hypnosis with the best.

He is stubborn, opinionated, and larger than life. He is warm, silly, and funny, and his words can chop your head off easily. He knows this also, and tempers it to whom he is speaking. He is a zen master.

He is simply brilliant, and can do whatever he sets his mind to do. He has a huge amount of “Slamma-ness in him, and does not hesitate to tackle anything even id it’s enormous in scope!  I’ve always told T, he could be president if he wanted, a dental surgeon?, that also. Oh you would like to be a brain surgeon…o.k. that is possible. He is definitely a possibilitarian. The world is his oyster. If he is interested in something he will get to know it whatever it is, inside out. He will be able to dissect it with a surgeons scalpel, and explain it back to you. He has the “grand vision” of things from his Dad, a bigger than life thinker. He has the abilities to build a colossal vision…..then know the best way to market it. Want 400 elephants sold and advertised? T could handle a way to do it and do it with fun and creativity.

People are drawn to his kind intelligence. He is a gentleman, a big soft soul…..a creampuff on the inside he is filled with Hostess Twinkie filling. He is sensitive, sometimes too much so. But you will find that he uses it to create compassion towards others. He reminds us we are just a monkey soaring thru space with a lot of other monkeys and to be kind and thoughtful of our clan. He is a care giver, he will argue that point with me, I’m sure. He considers himself a bit of a loner. just because he is comfortable in his own skin.

Seeing this picture of them together made me want to tell the world about these 2……even though those 2 scroundrels know that Dole Whips are my favorite, and that this is absolute torture for me to see this picture. These two are my everything, they are my heart and my soul, and I am so terribly proud of the adults they have become. I know that when their father and I are gone they will always have each other to count on. I do know now, after a very close call with death,  that things must always be said to those you love, life can be taken from you at any time, and you must say what you want everyday to those you love.

I know…that they know … much they were ALWAYS loved by the both  us, and how PROUD we are of the adults they have become today…..

that’s all

I LOVE Celery….

Celery…I had to post this because I’m juicing a lot and having 5-6 stalks a day!

Nutrition Information And Facts

The health benefits of celery are
more than just lowering blood pressure.
They also contain at least eight families of
anti-cancer compounds to combat cancer

Celery is from the same family with parsley and fennel, the Umbelliferae family. It can grow to the height of up to 16 inches. The white celery is grown shaded from direct sunlight, thus has less chlorophyll, compared to its greener counterparts.

The ribs of celery are crunchy and are often used to make soup or salad. It has a salty taste, so celery juice is a good mix with the sweeter fruit juices. Depending on variety, some may taste very salty.

Nutritional Benefits

Celery leaves has high content of vitamin A, whilst the stems are an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C with rich supplies of potassium, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and plenty essential amino acids.

Nutrients in the fiber are released during juicing, aiding bowel movements. The natural organic sodium (salt) in celery is very safe for consumption, in fact is essential for the body. Even individuals who are salt-sensitive can safely take the sodium in celery, unlike table salt (iodised sodium) which is harmful for those with high blood pressure.

While many foods lose nutrients during cooking, most of the compounds in celery hold up well during cooking.

Consumption Tips

Choose green celery where possible for its chlorophyll. Ensure that the ribs are still firm, not limp. To store in the fridge, wrap celery in a sealed container or wrap in a plastic bag or a damp cloth.

Do not leave it at room temperature for too long as it tends to wilt quickly. If your celery has wilted, sprinkle it with a little water and put it in the refrigerator for a few hours. It will regain its crispness.

Celery is such a succulent plant that it produces its own “pesticide” to protect itself from fungi.  This protective layer is called psoralens which although protects the celery, may not go down so well with some people.

If you begin having skin problems after eating celery, it might mean that you have some sensitivity to psoralens.

Some people with low blood pressure had complained that celery makes their blood pressure even lower. I personally didn’t encounter that problem so I believe it is also your overall make-up. But, you might want to avoid celery if you have low blood pressure. Listen to your body when you take celery.

Women surfers,rights,responsibilities…

I love this old photograph. It shows that even way back when women were still involved with sports and surfing in particular. This is from the Oregon approx. 1935 which is amazing to me….Now look at the amazing women in the Olympics today. There was a saying from a cigarette company years ago I’m reminded of…..”You’ve come a long way baby”.

Which leads my mind to what’s happening right now in the US and the battle against women’s rights and the right wing agenda.

Don’t let them get away with it, we worked too hard to get it.

Baked Zucchini & Herbs – Recipe Of The Week

One of my all-time favorite Reboot recipes is the “Baked Zucchini with Tomatoes and Herbs”. I think it’s a perfect summer dish, when zucchinis and fresh herbs are abundant and at the peak of their season. So when zucchini and tomatoes showed up in my CSA box, I decided to revisit this old favorite.

Fresh and light, yet savory and satisfying, this dish is versatile and can be served hot or cold. It makes a great healthy side for your summer barbecue or a terrific dinner with mixed greens on the side.

It is also easy to substitute ingredients with this dish. For example, this time I used shallots instead of scallions. And any fresh herb will work in place of the celery and basil leaves.

Try this one this summer!

5 small Zucchini
4 Scallions, sliced, white and green parts separated
1 small Onion, chopped
2 Plum Tomatoes, coarsely chopped
2 tbsp Celery Leaves (from inner stalks), chopped
4 tbsp Basil Leaves, chopped, plus extra for garnish
1/4 cup Olive Oil
1 tsp. Sea Salt
1/2 tsp. fresh ground Black Pepper

– Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
– Slice the zucchini in half crosswise. Cut each half again lengthwise, and slice each of the halves into 4 equal, ½ inch pieces. They should look like sticks.
– In a bowl, mix together the zucchini sticks with the white parts of the scallions, onion, tomatoes, celery leaves and basil.
– Mix in the olive oil, salt and pepper and toss to combine.
– Pour into a 3 quart baking dish and bake for 20 minutes.
– Garnish with the sliced green tops of the scallions and the extra chopped basil.

Total Time: 30 minutes
Makes 4 servings

Onion/Scallion – Shallot
Basil/Celery Leaves – Any Fresh Herb

Just Jump!

I live like this.

I wait til the last moment, then jump.

It works.

I have immense belief in the Universe.

I have belief that the NET will appear. It usually does. I think a lot of us don’t believe that the net will appear and that’s why it doesn’t appear. It’s the age old story about the Little Engine That Could……he believed it, he was successful. I take steps or actions a lot of people wouldn’t. I believe this allows your spirit to fly, it gives you a sort of freedom to be yourself!

You will succeed.

P.S. This shot was taken in Hawaii. These kids are amazing. Everyday you’ll find them at the cement pier on Kuhio beach at the end of Kapahulu. They have no fear.

5 Foods to buy Organic!

Articles Health — 19 June 2012

by Elizabeth Renter
Wouldn’t it be nice to just trust that what you purchased from your local supermarket was good for you. I’m not talking about the convenience foods, cookies, or highly processed canned goods—I’m referring to the produce. Wouldn’t it be great to know that all of the natural and beautiful fruits and vegetables were completely safe for your consumption?

While these are likely the healthiest
foods at the grocery store, we can no longer trust that they are completely safe. That’s just the times we live in. And while you have every right and justification to question every item you purchase, there are some you should always be wary of.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) reports that eating produce from what’s become known as the Dirty Dozen could result in you being exposed to 15 different pesticides every single day. The Dirty Dozen is a list of the most contaminated produce of our days. These foods are the most likely to be contaminated and therefore are the foods to buy organic always.

But not all of us have access to a great selection of organics. And even if the variety is there, sometimes the money isn’t. If you were only able to choose five different organic products, these would top the list:

  • Peaches: Ninety-seven percent of peaches tested positive for pesticides, according to the EWG. And about 87% of them had two or more pesticide residues, some with combinations of up to 57 different chemicals.

  • Apples: Ninety-two percent of apples tested positive for pesticides and 79% had two or more of the dangerous chemicals present.

  • Celery: Ninety-six percent of celery tests positive for pesticides. One sample tested positive for 13 different pesticides!

  • Cilantro: Technically it’s an herb, but it’s dirty. About 92.9% of cilantro is contaminated, 70.1% of which is contaminated by more than one chemical.

  • Strawberries: Strawberries rank third on the list of contaminated fruits and vegetables, with 13 different pesticides per sample.

You can read more about the Dirty Dozen and how your favorites measured up here. You can also check out what’s known as the “Clean 15”, those fruits and vegetables with the least contamination and therefore not worth the extra cost of buying organic.

I just thought with soooo many people juicing it these days that buying organic was really important. I grow my own celery, strawberries, etc. and know what’s on my veggies!

organic feelings

New pieces of my Organic Art. These are actually three from my OCD ink drawings, but happen to have a very “organic” feel to them. My inspiration, well, it varies but today I’ve been in the garden, and well you see I think. I love the complexities of nature.

These drawings really help to soothe my soul, they take my breathing right down and I get to a place of meditation. I am a little unsettled today as I just heard a friend of my daughters passed away this last Monday of a brain aneurysm. I had one 2 yrs. ago.

She was only 35.

This is a moment when I am feeling my own vulnerability.

It is o.k. though, I was so close to death and honestly it was o.k.

Anyone that has ever been to that place knows. Let’s just say I am no longer afraid to die.

Please Squeeze!!!!

Many professionals in restaurants and eateries are using or consuming the
entire lemon and nothing is wasted. How can you use the whole lemon without
waste? Simply place the lemon in the freezer section of your refrigerator.
Once the lemon is frozen, get your grater, and shred the whole lemon (no
need to peel it) and sprinkle it on top of your foods. Sprinkle it to your
whisky, wine, vegetable salad, ice cream, soup, noodles, spaghetti sauce,
rice, sushi, fish dishes. All of the foods will unexpectedly have a
wonderful taste, something that you may have never tasted before. Most
likely, you only think of lemon juice and vitamin C. Not anymore. Now that
you’ve learned this lemon secret, you can use lemon even in instant cup

What’s the major advantage of using the whole lemon other than preventing
waste and adding new taste to your dishes? Well, you see lemon peels contain
as much as 5 to 10 times more vitamins than the lemon juice itself. And yes,
that’s what you’ve been wasting. But from now on, by following this simple
procedure of freezing the whole lemon, then grating it on top of your
dishes, you can consume all of those nutrients and get even healthier. It’s
also good that lemon peels are health rejuvenators in eradicating toxic
elements in the body. So place your lemon in your freezer, and then grate it
on your meal every day. It is a key to make your foods tastier and you get
to live healthier and longer! That’s the lemon secret! Better late than

The surprising benefits of lemon! Lemon (Citrus) is a miraculous product to
kill cancer cells. It is 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy. Why do we
not know about that? Because there are laboratories interested in making a
synthetic version that will bring them huge profits. You can now help a
friend in need by letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in
preventing the disease. Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the
horrific effects of chemotherapy.

How many people will die while this closely guarded secret is kept, so as
not to jeopardize the beneficial multimillionaires large corporations? As
you know, the lemon tree is known for its varieties of lemons and limes. You
can eat the fruit in different ways: you can eat the pulp, juice press,
prepare drinks, sorbets, pastries, etc. It is credited with many virtues,
but the most interesting is the effect it produces on cysts and tumors. This
plant is a proven remedy against cancers of all types. Some say it is very
useful in all variants of cancer. It is considered also as an antimicrobial
spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal
parasites and worms, it regulates blood pressure which is too high and an
antidepressant, combats stress and nervous disorders.

The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the
largest drug manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20
laboratory tests since 1970, the extracts revealed that: It destroys the
malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and
pancreas …The compounds of this tree showed 10,000 times better than the
product Adriamycin, a drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world,
slowing the growth of cancer cells. And what is even more astonishing: this
type of therapy with lemon extract only destroys malignant cancer cells and
it does not affect healthy cells.
